The Midway Food Park, a 2-acre site at 1905 S. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, will open Aug. 15, owners Sarah and Jason Hannon said. The Hannons are longtime Austinites; Sarah is a graduate of Westlake High School.
Although the site is on the edge of the city of West Lake Hills, which bans food trucks, the tract is within Austin's city limits where food trailers are allowed, Sarah said.
The Hannons have improved the park with a playscape, fencing and grassy areas and plan to add a stage and live music in the near future.
Adam Lewis' Dock and Roll truck is already parked on the grounds, and he said he plans to open at 8 a.m. on Aug. 15. Other local food trailers, One Taco and Royal Fig Catering's The Seedling Truck, are already on board, Sarah said. Plans include a stable of about eight food trucks of different food varieties plus an additional rotating spot on a short term-lease, she said. The park will also provide an air-conditioned bathroom trailer, she said.
Sarah said she hopes the spot will become a destination site for area residents after Westlake High School football games as well as for businesses in West Austin.
"I get to bring in a little bit of the funky Austin we're missing out here," Sarah said.
