A new Torchy's Tacos location at 1416 Whitestone Blvd., Cedar Park, has delayed its grand opening until Aug. 13.
The Austin-based taco chain was originally scheduled to open its newest location July 25.
"Since new locations are quite a production, we're always prepared for delays," said Brittany Platt, Torchy's Tacos director of marketing. "Unfortunately this particular delay was more than just a false alarm."
Platt said the delay was needed for more construction work. The extra time will allow Torchy's more time to market its brand to the area, which is new territory for the restaurant chain, she said.
"This location will be the furthest north we've [been], so our name might not be as widely celebrated." Platt said.
In celebration of its 10th Austin-area location, the restaurant will offer one free taco per person from 7–10 a.m. Aug. 13, Platt said. Every customer that visits the location during that time will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing for free tacos all year.
Platt invites Cedar Park residents to eat free tacos and become acquainted with the restaurant.
"Neighbors and fans are invited to join us on Monday, Aug. 12 from 6–9 p.m. for our preopening celebration," she said. "There will be free tacos, libations and entertainment for the whole family."
The street taco chain is currently working on renovations to expand an existing location near the University of Texas campus. Platt said the chain is also expanding outside the Austin area to a location in Houston that is expected to open mid-September.
