Lines were nonexistent and the scene was orderly Thursday as Grapevine's In-N-Out Burger opened.
Store Manager Gil Lucero said the chain intentionally kept the opening "soft" to avoid the kind of frenzied crowd scene that characterized other openings in Texas, such as the one in Frisco.
"We're deliberately keeping it calm, to control crowds," he said.
Lucero, who opened the Frisco store, said crowded opening days mean people can't find tables inside "and who wants to sit outside in this heat?"
The popular California burger chain's Grapevine location is at 1303 William D. Tate Ave., near the intersection with Hwy. 114.
"We're hoping people realize it's so close to the airport — it would be a great first stop, or a great last stop" before leaving town, he said.
The restaurant is open 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday–Thursday and until 1:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
