Capital Metro added a new route and modified an existing route in Southwest Austin as part of its scheduled June changes.
Capital Metro created the 111 South MoPac Flyer, a route that will provide rush hour service to downtown and the University of Texas, Capital Metro spokeswoman Melissa Ayala said.
The route will run parallel to MoPac and will have stops in Circle C and the Western Oaks neighborhoods. Limited parking will be available at Dick Nichols Park, according to a news release. A preview of the route changes is available on Capital Metro's website.
"We went out to [Southwest Austin] several times to talk with the passengers to see what they had to say," Ayala said. "We also did a survey. People were really interested in seeing this additional route come to the area."
She said Capital Metro makes service changes three times a year after doing a systemwide analysis to see where improvements can be made.
The 171 Oak Hill Flyer will gain two new trips at 8:20 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. to reduce overcrowding during peak hours.
"Some early morning trips (6:20 and 6:40 a.m.) and evening trips (5:20, 5:40 and 6:20 p.m.) will be consolidated due to low ridership," according to the news release.
The 4:20 p.m. trip will no longer serve the Westcreek and Windmill Run neighborhoods.
Capital Metro will suspend some school-related trips during the summer break along the 331 Oltorf and 333 William Cannon routes, among others.
The 238 Westgate route will experience minor weekend schedule adjustments.
