At Yogapeutics, adults and children can hang out while practicing yoga—literally.
The new business in Southwest Austin offers aerial yoga, a type of yoga in which participants practice yoga poses suspended in midair while they hang from fabric loops and hammocks. Owner Lindsey Lieneck is an occupational therapist and registered yoga instructor.
"The hammocks are attached to the ceiling and they are each certified by a professional engineer to support 1,000 pounds of dynamic force," Lieneck explained.
In what Lieneck describes as a "tiny but awesome" home-based studio, Yogapeutics offers aerial yoga adult group classes and aerial yoga children's classes for ages 4 to 10 that integrate life skills education with movement.
Lieneck, a mother of two, said her 5-year-old daughter participates in the sessions, which teach children proper breathing, stress management and other skills. Integrative workshops combine western rehabilitation experience with Lieneck's yoga training, she said, noting a mother-daughter aerial workshop in May will teach attendees partner poses and encourage bonding.
Drop-in classes cost $22, and the business offers different class packages ranging between $16 and $22 per class depending on the number of classes purchased.
