Dozens of business leaders, community members and volunteers have planned for months to organize the Texas Best Music Festival—a free concert on April 7 that will feature the talents of Johnny Lee, Kevin Black and other musicians from around the country.

The inaugural concert will be held at Northwest Dodge off Hwy. 290 and proceeds will benefit Champions Kids Camp—an annual summer camp that hosts children suffering from traumatic experiences, neglect or abuse. Bill and Kim Nash have operated the camp since 2001 and host several events in the community throughout the year.

"This is the most people we have had working together on a project for Champions Kids Camp," Bill Nash said. "There are a lot of children who need our help who can't speak up for themselves. This is our 12th year, and it was time to do something like this."

Apart from more than a dozen scheduled live performances, food and drinks, various activities, merchandise and a silent auction are part of the festival.

"There are going to be areas for merchandise where we will be selling T-shirts, posters, bandanas and all kinds of items," said Carol Lockwood, who has been handling the logistics for the event.

There are several opportunities for volunteering, ranging from assisting with admission to parking to ticket sales for food, drinks, merchandise and raffles.

The concert will be followed by a golf tournament April 8 at the Longwood Golf Club in Cypress. More than 100 players are expected to attend, including former Houston Astro Roger Clemens. Major sponsors for the festival and the golf tournament include Silver Eagle Distributors, Bank of Texas, H&H Music, Hilton Garden Inn and Northwest Dodge.

The Texas Best Music Festival committee is still looking for additional volunteers and golf teams. Interested individuals, companies and organizations can learn more and sign up online at www.texasbmf.com. The festival begins at 1 p.m. April 7 at Northwest Dodge at 19616 Hwy. 290 near FM 1960.
