Councilmen Lyle Grimes, Lowell Moore and Stephen Thomas were appointed to serve on the Sunset Advisory Commission, the city's newest committee, designed to audit certain boards and commissions.
The commission will review the Parks and Recreation Board, the Historical and Cultural Preservation Committee and the Civil Service Commission this year, council learned at its March 14 meeting.
The councilmen will be joined by one member of the city attorney's office and a representative from the city manager's office. The council tabled the appointment of the one citizen member of the commission. Each member serves a one-year term.
"This is about effectiveness and efficiency," said Mayor Pro Tem Mitch Fuller, who suggested the Historical and Cultural Preservation Board may no longer be necessary.
The Texas Legislature has a similar commission designed to review and eliminate government waste, inefficiency and duplication. Cedar Park's commission will consider whether funding should be changed for any of the boards being reviewed.
