An evening of stargazing is taking place Feb. 15 in Sunset Valley.
The city's Environmental Services Manager Carolyn Meredith said Star Party attendees will meet at Sunset Valley City Hall to learn about astronomy, peer through telescopes and hear stories about the stars.
This is the fourth stargazing event organized by the city, she said. Telescopes will be provided, and visitors inside City Hall can sample snacks and work on arts and crafts. Local astronomer Amy Jackson will teach participants how to use star charts to locate constellations visible in Austin's night sky, Meredith said.
"I think it's a fun, educational experience and a way for families to work together and be able to do something nice outside—teach about the stars and the world we live in," she said.
The free event is scheduled to take place from 7–8:30 p.m. at Sunset Valley City Hall, 3205 Jones Road. Attendees will stargaze from the field behind City Hall and can bring their own telescopes if desired.
