Pflugerville businesses took in 6.1 percent more in sales tax during December 2012 than the year before, according to a Feb. 8 city news release.

According to a report issued by the Office of the Texas Comptroller, the city received $507,340 in sales tax in December 2012.

"This is exciting news because the city has relied on sales tax growth to help reduce our reliance on property tax," Pflugerville Mayor Jeff Coleman said. "Sales tax contributes to our ability to lower the city's portion of the property tax rate since 2005. This is also the first year that property tax is expected to make up less than 50 percent of our budgeted revenues, and a sales tax report such as this indicates we are well on our way to our goal."
