During a 2012 year in review presentation, the City of Hutto highlighted achievements such as starting a marketing task force and finishing a public library master plan.
The presentation was given to the city's Economic Development Corporation on Jan. 10 by Assistant City Manager Micah Grau. It covered major accomplishments in the past year regarding areas such as public safety, with the establishment of the Hutto Home Safe Program, and education, with breaking ground on the East Williamson County HIgher Education Center. The accomplishments all highlighted a strategic plan adopted by City Council in 2007 as a look forward to 2030, Grau said.
"[The council] adopted guidelines of how they'd like to see quality of life look like, what they'd like their leadership to look like," Grau said. "A great example is education policy—it outlined their expectations with education in the city. They knew back in 2007 that higher education was a need that needed to be met, so the opening of the college is a huge check-off, and that's a move toward their vision."
Mayor Debbie Holland also gave a preview of the city's goals for 2013, which include continuing construction on a YMCA facility, beginning the design process for wastewater system improvements, installing utilities on Toll Road 130, opening the EWCHEC and focusing on transportation infrastructure.
