The City of Cedar Park is accepting applications through Dec. 31 to fill a vacancy left by Scott Mitchell, who resigned Nov. 29.
City Council will appoint an applicant to fill the seat until the next election in May, at which point the position will be placed on the ballot for a two-year term.
Mitchell announced his resignation during a regular council meeting, citing work engagements that would take him to Canada for about six months. He served on the council for 9 1/2 years.
Those interested in an appointment to Place 3 must complete and submit an application, letter of interest and resume to City Secretary LeAnn Quinn by 5 p.m. Dec. 31 in person, via mail, fax or email. All applicants must attend a mandatory interview session with the council during its regular meeting Jan. 10 at City Hall, 450 Cypress Creek Road, Cedar Park. The appointed candidate will be expected to begin service immediately.
According to the city charter, the appointed candidate must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of Cedar Park for at least the past 12 months.

The appointment will be the second within a few months, as Jon Lux was appointed to Tony Dale's Place 5 seat Dec. 1. City Hall is closed Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
