At an Austin ISD board meeting Dec. 17, Superintendent Meria Carstarphen will present her final recommendations for changes to academics and facilities as well as the district's agreement with IDEA Public Schools.
According to the meeting agenda, the following are among Carstarphen's final recommendations to the board:
- Dual-language program expansion and extension
- Campus-initiated in-district charter at Travis Heights Elementary School
- Responsive Education Solutions continued at Lanier and Travis high schools
- Any Given Child fine arts and creative learning program
The board is expected to take action on each recommendation.
AISD could amend IDEA agreement
If it is approved by the board, an amendment included in the Dec. 17 agenda would allow IDEA Allan to continue operating in the district but would delay IDEA's planned growth into Eastside Memorial High School in the 2013–14 school year. The amendment would defer allowing the IDEA College Prep program in grades six and seven at Eastside Memorial High School until 2014–15, according to board documents.
Trustee Jayme Mathias said at a Dec. 3 meeting that the delay would give trustees a chance to talk with the community about the charter school.
All the available slots for public comment at the meeting have been filled, according to AISD. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Carruth Administration Center board auditorium, room B100, 1111 W. Sixth St.
