Nov. 29 is the last day to apply for the Place 5 seat on Cedar Park City Council. The position was vacated by Tony Dale after his election to the District 136 state Representative post Nov. 6. City Council will appoint an applicant to fill the seat until the next election in May, at which point the position will be placed on the ballot for a two-year term.
Dale stepped down as Mayor Pro Tem during a Nov. 13 special called meeting. The move came just days after Dale, a Republican, defeated Democrat Matt Stillwell and Libertarian Matt Whittington to become the first politician to be elected to represent the newly created District 136, which primarily covers Cedar Park and Leander.
Those interested must complete and submit an application, letter of interest and resume to City Secretary LeAnn Quinn by 5 p.m. Nov. 29 in person, via fax or by email. All applicants must attend a mandatory interview session and special meeting Dec. 1 at City Hall, 450 Cypress Creek Road, Cedar Park. The appointed candidate will be expected to begin service immediately.
According to city charter, the appointed candidate must be at least 18 years old, a registered voter and a resident of Cedar Park for at least the past 12 months.
