Chasco Constructors LTD was chosen in September as the builder for the new Hutto Family YMCA.

Ten firms responded to a bid request the city announced in June. A committee of representatives from the City of Hutto, the YMCA and KA Hickman Architects—the design firm behind the facility—evaluated the bid packages before recommending Chasco Constructors to the City Council. Council members approved the contract at a meeting Sept. 6.

Chasco Constructors proposed a fee of 2.5 percent of the gross maximum price of the project, as well as fees estimated at $207,475, according to documentation submitted to the city by the construction company. According to city documents, the projected total cost to hire Chasco Constructors is $313,725. The city previously selected KA Hickman Architects to design the structure at a projected cost of $395,787.

The $5 million project is part of a bond approved by voters in November 2009. The new recreational facility is expected to be completed in 2013.
