At its Aug. 21 meeting, Sunset Valley City Council accepted the resignation of Councilman Zubair Hamir.
In his resignation letter, posted on the city's website, Hamir wrote that he and his family are moving out of town at the end of August.
"It has been a pleasure working with you, the City Council members, and city staff, and I wish everyone the best of luck going forward," Hamir wrote.
The council voted unanimously to accept nominations for the two-year term until Sept. 21, according to Mayor Rose Cardona.
"We want to give them ample opportunity to show interest and participate," she said, explaining the nomination process will allow one month for people to express interest, and the council will remind residents of the vacancy at its upcoming meetings.
