The Hays County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the Texas Alive Team to bring the Alive at 25 program to Hays County.
The Texas Alive Team is a nonprofit, multiagency team of law enforcement and safety professionals that is focused on encouraging good driving habits in younger drivers.
Deputies Manuel DeLaRosa and Jeffrey Jordan attended a weeklong training course to become certified by the National Safety Council and the Texas Education Agency to instruct the course.
The first class in Hays County was held in May, with 17 students. Another session is set for 8 a.m.–noon June 16 at the Hays County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said monthly classes are expected to follow.
According to the Sheriff's Office, traffic crashes are the leading cause of teen fatalities, accounting for 44 percent of teen deaths in the United States annually.
