Designed by women, for women, the Tomball Regional Medical Center's Healthy Woman program launches today with the aim of helping community members learn about and develop good health practices.

"The program's mission is to empower women of Tomball with the knowledge and confidence to make informed health care and well-being decisions for themselves and their loved ones," said Abbey Lee, director of marketing at TRMC.

The program launches with a Party in Pearls event today from 4–8 p.m. at the Settlement House of the Northwest Forest Conference Center. A free health and vendor expo takes place through 6 p.m., followed by a dinner and motivational presentation featuring Ali Vincent, the first female winner of NBC's "The Biggest Loser," who lost 112 pounds on the show. The dinner portion of the event costs $20 for members and $25 for non-members.

Each month, Healthy Woman will feature free health seminars, health fairs, educational programs and interactive events, all with the focus on women. Presentations go beyond physical health, reaching into emotional health, financial wellbeing and spiritual development, Lee said.

An advisory council composed of women throughout the Tomball community will assist the hospital in identifying topics for events, Lee said. The first seminar, "Sun, Safety and Spray Tan," will be held June 7 at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Vicki Carr, dermatologist with Gracefully Bronzed, will lead a presentation on proper skin care practices during the hot Texas summers.

"Our monthly seminars will include a physician presentation and local business partners to make the event unique, educational and fun," Lee said.

Future health topics will include information on heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, menopause, nutrition, osteoporosis, stress management and life balance issues.

Becoming a member of Healthy Woman is free, and can be done from the program's website. To RSVP for the June 7 seminar, call 281-401-7859.

The Northwest Forest Conference Center, where the Party in Pearls will be held, is located at 12715 Telge Road, Cypress.
