In the Democratic primary race for sheriff, unofficial voting returns show incumbent Greg Hamilton maintained his commanding lead to the end with 72.23 percent of the vote and challenger John Sisson taking 27.77 percent in unofficial tallies with early voting results and all precincts reporting.
Hamilton was elected Travis County sheriff in November 2004 after serving 19 years with the Travis County Sheriff's Office. According to TCSO, he started in 1985 as a corrections officer and also held the positions of Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) officer and mounted patrol officer during his tenure at the department.
Sisson joined the Austin Police Department in 1978 and served in a variety of capacities for the department. He was a patrol officer, SWAT team member and a member of major narcotics investigations for three years, according to the biography on his website. He retired at the rank of lieutenant in 2009. He is now a deputy constable under the Precinct 3 Travis County constable.
Raymond Frank is the lone Republican running for sheriff in November.
