Cedar Park swore in Matt Powell as the city's next mayor during a May 24 ceremony.
Powell defeated challengers Eddie Hurst and Wayne Ruark on May 12 by earning 74.52 percent of the vote. He replaces outgoing Mayor Bob Lemon, who was first elected to the council in 1995 and served four terms as councilman before taking a break. Lemon ran for mayor and won in 2005 and has served as Cedar Park's mayor ever since.
Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan L. Hecht swore in Powell and councilmen Stephen Thomas, Mitch Fuller, Lowell Moore and Don Tracy, who all won unopposed elections May 12.
After the ceremony, Powell said how glad he was to rejoin the council, which he served on for almost seven years before stepping down March 13 in concurrence with Cedar Park's resign-to-run rules.
"I'm honored to sit in this center chair because mostly I get to work with this team," he said.
