The Pflugerville ISD board of trustees named three new principals at its May 17 regular meeting, filling vacancies at Caldwell Elementary, Wieland Elementary and Dessau Middle schools.

Colby Self, formerly an assistant principal at Pflugerville Elementary School and Dessau Elementary School before that, was named principal of Caldwell.

Lara Labbe'-Maginel is also a PISD veteran, having served as the assistant principal at Caldwell for the past three years. She has also been an English as a second language teacher, elementary school teacher and instructional coach in the district's administrative offices.

Meanwhile, Dessau will be staffed by a newcomer to the district.

Orlando Vargas was principal of Palestine High School in Palestine, Texas, for two years before making the move to PISD and Dessau Middle School. He has also served as an assistant principal in both Austin and Round Rock.
