According to unofficial results from the the City of Kyle, voters have approved the proposition to allow sales of all alcohol in the city.
The proposition asked voters, "Shall the City of Kyle permit the sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed beverages?" The proposition received 496 votes in favor and 93 votes against it, according to the city.
Under current law, businesses such as conveniece stores may sell beer and wine, and restaurants may sell liquor as long as less than half of their revenue comes from alcohol sales. The measure would loosen some of those restrictions.
The proposition had gained support from some residents, Kyle Mayor Lucy Johnson and the Chamber of Commerce.
In a message to members, the chamber urged residents to vote in favor of the proposition.
"We feel passage of this effort will expand our restaurant choices, support our existing restaurants by allowing them to lower costs and recruit more entertainment venues to Kyle," the message read. "This is important as we move to achieve the goal of allowing our citizens the choice to shop/dine and spend their entertainment dollars at home supporting the local economy and tax base."
During early voting, the proposition received 299 votes in favor and 55 votes against it, according to the Hays County elections office.
