Hutto City Council approved an agreement May 3 with Round Rock-based KAHickman Architects and Interior Designers to design and administer construction of a YMCA recreation facility.

Assistant City Manager Micah Grau said design is expected to begin in May, and construction would start this fall. The Hutto Family YMCA would then open in summer 2013 on property west of the Lowe's store off Hwy. 79.

Councilman Paul Prince was one of the city representatives on the six-member committee that reviewed applications from design firms for the project. He said reasons the committee recommended KAHickman included that the firm has designed other YMCA facilities and also considers the community when developing each building.

"So that as we develop the Y and build the Y, it truly is a community facility," Prince said.

The $395,787 agreement between KAHickman and the City of Hutto calls for the firm to provide full design, documentation and construction administration services for the YMCA recreation facility.
