Cedar Park recognizes multiple efforts to maintain public safety

The Cedar Park City Council approved several proclamations on April 12 honoring the city's various public safety groups.

April 8-14 was National Public Safety Telecommunications Week and National Animal Control Appreciation Week.

Members of Cedar Park's Public Safety Communications Division and Animal Control Unit were on hand to accept the proclamation from Mayor Bob Lemon.

National Crime Victims' Right Week will be held April 22-28. Members of the Cedar Park Police Department were on hand to accept the proclamation.

Cedar Park renames Creekside Park after longtime city servant

A park that has long stood next to Janet Bartles' home was renamed in her honor April 12 by the Cedar Park City Council.

Creekside Park, 1100 Buttercup Creek Blvd., will be renamed after the longtime city servant who died in March after a long fight against cancer. Her husband, Gillis Bartles, and their son, Gannon, were on hand during Thursday's City Council meeting.

"I cannot imagine a more deserving person," he said. "She was a public servant, and I'm very proud for her this evening."

Bartles served on the Cedar Park City Council from 1995 to 2002 and continued to contribute to the city as a member of the parks board from 2006 to 2012. The 8.5-acre park named after Bartles features a gazebo and new playground
