The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department and the Georgetown Municipal Airport hosted its first Eggs Away event March 31. The event took the place of the Eggstravaganza, which was an event held in previous years.

Candy eggs were dropped from a B-25 World War II-era bomber at a Georgetown Airport field. Children ages 10 and younger were then allowed into the field by age group to collect the eggs.

While previous Eggstravaganza events had averaged attendances of less than 1,000 people, the Eggs Away event brought in between 6,000 and 8,000 peopole. Due to the high number of attendees, some were left without any eggs.

For those who did not receive eggs at the event, the city is offering free candy through April 5 at the following locations:

  • Airport Terminal, 500 Terminal Drive
  • City Hall, 113 E. Eighth St.
  • Georgetown Municipal Complex, 300-1 Industrial Ave.
  • Library, 402 W. Eighth St.
  • Municipal Court, 101 E. Seventh St.
  • Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.
  • Visitor Center, 103 W. Seventh St.
