Boutique is now in Hutto, Pflugerville

Mari Gutierrez, owner of G Fashion said she loves that moment when a girl who has been trying on dresses at her store stands in front of the mirror and knows she has found the perfect dress.

"It makes me happy to see how gorgeous they are and excited about looking like a princess," she said.

G Fashion in Hutto carries dresses for prom, special events and casual occasions. Gutierrez also owns G Fashion Women's Formal Wear in Pflugerville, which also offers gowns for weddings and quinceaeras.

More than 100 dresses line the walls of the Hutto store—gowns in emerald green, red with leopard spots and royal purple encrusted with jewels. Gutierrez said this prom season dresses with animal prints—such as leopard spots and peacock feathers—paired with bright colors are popular, as well as Greek goddess-style dresses in black or white and gold.

G Fashion has a wide variety of prom dresses this year, but Guiterrez makes it a point not to sell identical dresses to girls who plan to attend the same prom.

Gutierrez said her 18-year-old daughter, Cynthia, alerted her to the importance of each girl showing up with a unique look at prom. Cynthia is also the inspiration behind the idea for G Fashion.

The first couple of years she attended prom, Cynthia and her mother had to travel to Austin to find dresses. They identified a need for a quality dress shop and boutique in the Hutto area, and so Gutierrez and a partner opened the store in January 2011.

A year later, Gutierrez opened another store in Pflugerville. Both locations also carry shoes, jewelry and accessories so that girls can get a complete outfit.

"It's a one-stop shop," she said.

Gutierrez said she and her staff try and assist customers in finding that perfect dress for each occasion that fits their price range, style and color choice.

A frequent customer at G Fashion, Sandra Ortiz, said she appreciates the quality and selection of the clothes at the boutique, as well as the employees, who let her take her time browsing through the clothes.

"They are all patient with me," she said with a laugh.

Gutierrez buys the clothing at fashion shows in New York and California. In addition to buying the latest styles, she said that it is important that she caters to what her customers want.

"Customers give me ideas of designers and brands that they like and are comfortable with, and I try to accommodate them," she said.
