Cedar Park Police Chief Henry Fluck resigned Feb. 23, saying he would like to move on and seek other opportunities. He will continue in his position until Dec. 31.
"When I accepted this position in 1999, I made a commitment to serve 10 years under the condition that I was allowed to function under an ethical climate, which I was," Fluck said. "I exceeded my commitment by a couple of years, so when I leave in December I will have served 13 years."
Fluck's 13 years at the city make him the longest-serving police chief in the city's history. Fluck has been a sworn peace officer for about 30 years, and though he is eligible for retirement, he said he chose to resign because he plans to look for other employment in either law enforcement, municipal government or other fields.
"I have given the city 10 months advance notice, so they have a sufficient amount of time to go through the effective process to select a new chief of police," Fluck said.
Cedar Park City Manager Brenda Eivens said the City of Cedar Park appreciates Fluck's service.
"Chief Fluck has been a great presence for our growing City," Eivens says. "He has
professionally and ethically led the development of our Police Department and its services. I appreciate Chief Fluck's dedicated service to the City of Cedar Park and the time given to allow for a smooth and successful transition in leadership for our department and our community."
