Chief Scheets takes the reins

The City of Hutto held a public swearing-in ceremony for Police Chief Peter Scheets on Jan. 19. Scheets started as the new police chief Jan. 9.

Formerly the assistant chief of the administrative services bureau for the City of Bryan Police Department, Scheets has also served in the United States Army.

City accepts donated parkland and splash pad

A developer donated about 37 acres of parkland that also includes a splash pad to the City of Hutto on Dec. 15.

FB Ltd. is the developer of the Glenwood subdivision and donated the splash pad located at 101 Fishbaugh Lane, which will be open to the public this summer.

FB Ltd. also donated property by Riverwalk Drive that goes in front of the Riverwalk and Park at Brushy Creek subdivisions and connects to Hutto Lake Park at 805 Estate Drive.

Senior housing development gets council support

DMA Development Company LLC is applying for funds to build an affordable senior housing development in Hutto off of Exchange Boulevard between Liberty and Metcalfe streets.

City Council approved a resolution of support Feb. 2 for the project, Cottonwood Square, which would include 60 units.

Of the 60 units, five would be reserved for seniors age 55 and older who make 30 percent of the area median income, 45 units for those who make 50 percent to 60 percent of the median income and 10 units for higher income seniors.
