A weekly open-air market commences in Cedar Park on Feb. 5 at the Cedar Park Center. The market is a culmination of farm-to-market foods, crafts, art and carnival features in one place, organizer Edward McLean said.
"What we're trying to create is a place where people can bring their families and hang out and have a good time," he said.
The Orange County, Calif., native said the Austin Open Air Market includes activities beyond a traditional farmers market. Families can enjoy a petting zoo, music, crafts, fresh-cut flowers and other goods, all exclusively from Central Texas vendors.
"A lot of these vendors are at carnivals and other farmers markets like the one at Lakeline Mall on Saturdays," he said, adding his dream for the Austin Open Air Market was a convenient, local, outdoor event.
Thirty vendors have committed to showcasing their goods and services in February, McLean said. He hopes to grow to 100 by the summer.
The market will hold a soft opening Feb. 5 with a grand opening the following week. The market operates every Sunday from 8 a.m.–3p.m., rain or shine. Admission and parking are free.
