Jeremy Bulloch said he has received a warm welcome from the local neighborhood and visitors to his Copperfield store, 8th Dimension Comics and Games, since opening last June.

"We've had great regular foot traffic and new people who find us everyday," he said. "A lot of people are happy they have a place like this in this area. You normally have to go inside [Loop 610] to find a [similar] store."

8th Dimension hosted its first in-store signing event in January, which featured the writer and artist of the "World of The Scarlet Spider," a new Spider-Man comic book set in Houston.

In addition to the signing, Bulloch plans to continue a partnership with the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on Mason Road to show a classic kids movie for free once a month, along with a screening called the Dynamic Duos, a double feature of comic book movies.

"It teaches kids about how awesome movies can be and pop culture," Bulloch said.

Additionally, 8th Dimension plans to participate this year in Houston's Comicpalooza event, along with Free Comic Book Day, both of which will take place in May.

"They'll have printed copies of free comic books, and there will be lots of stuff for young or mature readers," Bulloch said.

Over the next year, Bulloch said he hopes people are still excited to visit 8th Dimension, whether it is to buy comic books or spend time in the store's community gaming room.

"We want to continue to establish ourselves as the comic shop in Houston that does fun and cool events," he said. "We're trying to create a sense of community with our customers."
