On Labor Day weekend 2011, wildfires destroyed about 45 homes in Spicewood.

About 30 of those homes will be rebuilt.

"Some of the families moved away, and others were in mobile homes and have replaced them," said George Barnette, a volunteer and member of the Presbyterian Church in America.

The PCA raised about $22,000 to build 27 storage sheds for survivors who were uninsured or underinsured, which are being constructed and delivered on weekends throughout January from where they are being constructed at Grace Outreach Family Church, 20808 W. Hwy. 71 in Spicewood.

The storage sheds, called Sheds of Hope, will allow those who lost their homes a space to store items salvaged from the fire or tools and materials that will be used in rebuilding their homes.

Each of the 27 8-foot by 8-foot sheds cost approximately $750.

"The only thing [the survivors] have to give us is permission to go on their land and space for the shed," said Rick Lenz, the specialist for PCA's North American Disaster Response.

Lenz and a few others are travelling from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to Spicewood each weekend in January until they have built all 27 sheds.
