Comal County urged residents to be prepared for heavy rain and possible flooding May 12-13 after the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the area.

The Comal County Road Department is prepared to clear roadways of debris and respond to any flooding in the area.

“We encourage all residents to be weather aware this weekend and prepare to take necessary safety precautions,” the county said in a news release.

According to the county, there have been reliability issues with the eight tornado sirens along the Guadalupe River to the New Braunfels city limits. The county took over maintenance of the sirens and is in the process of addressing the software and equipment failures. Because of this, the county asked residents not to rely on warning sirens during this weekend’s weather.

How to stay informed:Comal County encouraged residents to have their cellphone alerts turned on to receive storm updates. More information on weather alerts can be found on the NWS website at www.weather.gov/wrn/wea.
