The city of New Braunfels will be offering free curbside limb and branch removal to residents for a limited time by request in response to last week’s winter storm.

The service is intended for residents who need assistance removing large branches or tree limbs due to ice accumulation during the winter storm. The city recommends residents with smaller amounts of branches or other brush material use Green Waste bags, which will be picked up during regular weekly Green Waste collection.

Green Waste bags can be found at the City Recycle Center on Castell Avenue, City Hall on Landa Street, the Westside Community Center and the New Braunfels Public Library on Common Street, according to the city.

Residents must request curbside branch removal by 5 p.m. Feb. 10 to take advantage of the service for free. Any requests made after Feb. 10 will be treated as routine requests and charged normal service fees, according to the city.

“In an effort to expedite the removal process, all limbs and branches should be placed at the curb in piles,” the city said in a press release. “Those piles should not be near, on, or under trees, poles, or other structures that would make removal difficult. Limbs should be no longer than 10 feet in length, and no more than 18 inches in diameter.”

If a resident hires a contractor to cut limbs, the contractor is responsible for the removal of the debris, the city said.

To request a curbside branch removal, contact the New Braunfels Solid Waste & Recycling Division at 830-221-4040. More information on the division, including curbside Green Waste collection, can be found at www.newbraunfels.gov/garbage.
