The city of New Braunfels has issued a press release urging residents not to drive until it is safe to do so.
"Effective at 3:30 a.m. on February 17, 2021, all streets and bridges in New Braunfels should be considered impassable until further notice," the release states. "The public is advised to not travel at this time."
With freezing rain and temperatures, all streets throughout New Braunfels and Texas are covered in up to two inches of ice and are beyond treatment, the release states, adding it will remain extremely dangerous to travel until temperatures rise above freezing and the ice melts off of roadways.
"If you do travel, be advised that emergency workers may not be able to reach you should you need assistance," the release states.
