New Braunfels Mayor Neal Linnartz presented a proclamation to acknowledge July 2023 as Parks and Recreation Month in New Braunfels. He cited how the New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department in the city assists in the physical health of residents, produce habitat for wildlife, ensure ecological beauty and aid in strengthening the local economy. Linnartz encouraged residents to take part in recreational activities throughout the city.

The New Braunfels City Council met on July 10 to pass multiple items on their regular meeting agenda and made the proclamation. Assistant City Manager Jordan Matney accepted the proclamation and said that the city’s parks department is one of the best in the state.

“Parks and recreation not only provides quality of life for all of our residents and visitors alike but also produces some of the best employees in the New Braunfels employee pool as well,” Matney said.

To celebrate, the parks and recreation department is hosting several outdoor events for the community including paddleboarding and mini golf.

Das Rec will also host a five-year anniversary celebration, a two-day event beginning July 21 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and July 22 from 9 a.m.-noon. The event will have a variety of activities, food trucks, vendors and sponsorships with local businesses.
