The nonprofit organization partners with seven local school districts as well as local businesses and community organizations to provide counseling, school supplies and other services to aid in their educational success. CIS partners with school districts and places full-time counselors—site coordinators—in a school to assist students who need help outside of the purview of the school, be it academic support or family assistance to access other resources.
“The need of the students CIS served over the last few years is greater than ever, making the mission much more urgent. For many students, the impact goes far beyond challenges in education. They are experiencing lack of food, [a lack of] access to medical care, anxiety, fear, [a lack of] basic needs and a lack of hope just to name a few. And the toll the crisis is taking on mental health cannot be overstated. We truly appreciate our sponsors for helping make this event such a great success for the children and families of CIS,” said Chris Douglas, CEO of CIS-SCT.
The evening event will include a musical performance from Don Faulkner, dinner, a pop-up version of the Comal ISD Thrift Store and an online live auction that will include items such as a condo for four people in Costa Rica; a five-night stay in Durango, Colorado; and other items.
Schlitterbahn Waterparks, The GVTC Foundation, Valero Energy, Bright Star Investments, J&R Gymnastics and Hunter Industries Ltd. are just some of the business partners sponsoring the event.
