The Sophienburg Museum & Archives and the city of New Braunfels announced on Friday, June 12, that the annual Fourth of July Parade was canceled.

According to a press release, the decision was made due to concerns that the event would not be conducive to social distancing guidelines and efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“While it is a difficult decision to cancel a beloved community tradition, the decision came at the suggestion of local health authorities and with the health and safety of our residents as their priority,” said New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman.

The annual Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular over Landa Park will proceed and spectators will be encouraged to choose viewing locations that allow for distance between themselves and others.

Attendees can view the fireworks from Landa Park, the Fredericksburg Fields, the Landa Park Golf Course, Fischer Park, the Oakwood Church parking lot and the Westpointe Village shopping center.

Residents will also be able to view live video of the fireworks on the city of New Braunfels’ social media channels.

“We are pleased to still be able to provide the fireworks spectacular to give our citizens a beautiful and patriotic show while celebrating our country in a safe manner,” Brockman said.
