They are Amy Duncan and Amy Shaw.

What is the most important issue facing residents, and how would you address it if elected?

The teacher shortage is the most important issue that is impacting our school district. I would address this issue by focusing on retaining seasoned educators through competitive pay and robust classroom support.

If elected, how do you plan to represent all of SMD 5, as well as the district as a whole?

Through community engagement with parents, educators and students within SMD 5, I aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of their needs and interests and advocate for their concerns on the school board. I will ensure financial resources are used effectively and transparently to support educational goals.

What issues outside of the most important one named above are a high priority for you to address?

Ensuring the safety and well-being of students and faculty is a top priority for me. By using a comprehensive approach that addresses physical, social, emotional and psychological aspects of safety and well-being, schools can create environments where students can thrive academically and personally.

What is the overall takeaway you want voters to understand about your campaign?

Having experienced the Texas Public School system firsthand, as a student and a parent, I am a staunch advocate for public education. I will do my best to ensure that all children in Comal ISD have access to quality education in a safe and positive environment.

What is the most important issue facing residents, and how would you address it if elected?

The 2023-28 Collaborative Vision developed with 60 residents and the resulting District Improvement Plan provide a clear roadmap. In this time of accelerated growth, it is especially important to ensure that teachers have the resources they need and are competitively compensated, while the ISD is very efficient with administrative costs.

If elected, how do you plan to represent all of SMD 5, as well as the district as a whole?

Comal ISD succeeds as one entity, and each board member serves to strengthen the ISD while also representing concerns and interests unique to residents of their own SMD. I intend to be accessible, to proactively seek to understand concerns, and work to be fully versed on all issues.

What issues outside of the most important one named above are a high priority for you to address?

Access to a quality public education for all is essential for the future of our community, state and nation, and it starts with being an employer of choice for teachers, fostering parental involvement and support, and having an effective and efficient administration.

What is the overall takeaway you want voters to understand about your campaign?

I seek this office because of my desire to serve a nonpartisan role and don’t intend to campaign other than to readily answer questions, attend forums, and respond to questionnaires like this one. I believe my parental and broad and deep corporate and nonprofit board experience will bring useful perspective.
