Comal County polling locations have reported the unofficial results of the March primary election.

The specifics

Unofficial results indicate Doug Leecock and Joyce Yannuzzi will face off in a runoff election for the Republican primary for Comal County Precinct 1 commissioner, due to no candidate securing 50% of the vote. Leecock led with 45.22% of the vote, with Yannuzzi and Henry White trailing behind at 40.66% and 14.12%, respectively.

Tanya Marroquin has won the March primary for Comal County Precinct 3 commissioner. Marroquin secured 65.26% of the vote, with opponent Bently Paiz receiving the remaining 34.74%.

What the candidates are saying

Leecock thanked his supporters, and said he would plan to address traffic issues, water and land conservation efforts, and be mindful of how tax dollars are spent if he secures the position as commissioner in the future.

"While knocking on doors throughout this campaign I have met so many wonderful people in Comal County," Leecock said. "The several consequences of growth, the ongoing drought, the impact of taxes, supporting youth sports at parks and having the back of law enforcement are consistent topics of discussion. The community wants someone who is willing to address their concerns at this local level, and I am the person that has the skills to work with my fellow commissioners to get results."

Yannuzzi said her priorities, if elected into office in November, would be public safety, preserving water resources and providing care for military veterans.

“I am glad to be in the runoff. Right now I'm going to take a deep breath and then restrategize for the next step,” Yannuzzi said.

Marroquin said she could not have won the March primary without her supporters.

"Between the campaign, work and grad school, I depended on so many others to help out, and they definitely pulled through for me," Marroquin said. "It is a strange feeling to have so many people believe in me, but that just makes me want to work harder so I don't let them down."
