With unofficial results in from early, absentee and election day voting on June 18, Andrés Campos-Delgado will become the next District 1 city council member for New Braunfels.

Campos-Delgado will succeed Shane Hines—the current District 1 council member—who chose not to seek re-election.

“I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve this community. My family has been here forever and I feel like this is my opportunity to give back to this community that’s been so good to me and my family,” Campos-Delgado said on election night. “I really just want to sit down and listen, take an opportunity to learn first and see what comes.”

Unofficial election results from Comal County and the city of New Braunfels showed Campos-Delgado with a 69.15% lead over Suzie Lynn, who garnered 30.85% of the vote.

The unofficial results also showed that 4.52% of the 8,609 registered voters who reside in District 1 participated in the runoff election.

For her part, Lynn said the campaign was an excellent experience.

“I loved getting out talking to people and getting to meet them and hear their concerns. And that really just gave me more desire to continue participating in city council meetings, continue going and you know, fighting for the people of New Braunfels,” Lynn said. “I hope that this is a sign that people are starting to become more engaged in civics and I really would love to see more citizens attending city council.”

In the May 7 race, candidates Lynn and Campos-Delgado garnered 42% and 44% of the vote respectively, according to combined Comal and Guadalupe County final election results. Jimmy V. Delgado, who also ran in the race, received 14% of the vote, knocking him out of the runoff.

Because no candidate received 50% of the vote, a runoff election was required between the top two candidates for the city council position.

Election results are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified.
