“My wife, Jan, and I grew up in New Braunfels and graduated from New Braunfels High School. We know firsthand the excellent academic and extracurricular programs NBISD has to offer,” Ivy said. “I am thrilled to join the extraordinary team of NBISD teachers, administrators and staff in their efforts to meet the needs of our students, their families and the greater community.”
A closer look
According to NBISD, Ivy brings 30 years of education experience to the district. He began his career in education as an English teacher at Bandera Middle School. In 2000, he began his path to leadership by serving as assistant principal at Hal Peterson Middle School in Kerrville ISD. He has since gained 23 years of administrative experience working both as a principal and assistant superintendent for Kerrville ISD.
Ivy holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Sul Ross State University. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English from Schreiner University in Kerrville. Ivy holds Texas Educator certifications as a Superintendent and a Texas Teacher of Secondary English Language Arts, according to the district.

“Mr. Ivy brings a wealth of knowledge to our administration team, along with valuable experience. His guidance and mentorship will be a real asset to our students, staff members and administrative team,” NBISD Superintendent Laurelyn Arterbury said. “His leadership background and notable accomplishments makes him an exceptional choice for the role of chief of secondary schools.”
Ivy has received several awards, some of his most notable include Texas Computer Education Association Administrator of the Year and his campus won the National Blue Ribbon School Award while he was principal at Nimitz Elementary School, the district said in a news release.
