The future name of the 10th elementary school in New Braunfels ISD was determined by the board of trustees during a regular meeting March 6.

The new campus will be named Legend Point Elementary School. Other name options trustees considered include Legend Pond, Legend and Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer.

A motion was originally made to approve the name of Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer Elementary, but Trustee Nancy York said she was worried it was too complicated for the future young students to recognize.

“Having a name that long, I think any school receptionist that answers the phone, to have to say the name of it—I would hope that the students would be able to spell the name of their school. I love history, but it seems rather complicated,” York said.

Lindheimer is considered The Father of Texas Botany. He was an immigrant who moved to New Braunfels from Frankfurt, Germany, according to the Sophienburg Museum and Archives.

Following further discussion, Trustee David Heefner made the motion to approve the name Legend Point for the elementary school, which was approved by the board unanimously. Legend Point Elementary will be located at 4365 Klein Meadows in New Braunfels and is anticipated to open in August 2024.
