Comal ISD hired a new executive director of safety and security, Mario De La Rosa, this week. De La Rosa has 27 years of experience both in law enforcement and schools and was hired for his expertise as a field agent and educational leader in the district.

The new executive director comes to Comal ISD from Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD, where he served the same role since 2018 and was previously the director of safety and security for Round Rock ISD, according to Comal ISD.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. De La Rosa to Comal ISD,” acting Superintendent Mandy Epley said. “He will continue our safety and security initiatives, which focus on preventing and mitigating as many issues as we can so that our students feel safe and are able to reach their full potential.”

De La Rosa began his law enforcement career as a U.S. Border Patrol agent followed by an extended time with U.S Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security as an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement criminal investigator. He is accustomed to communicating with parents and coordinating with multiple law enforcement and emergency agencies during critical situations and looks forward to working with and getting to know the New Braunfels community, CISD said.
