On Nov. 30, Hoffmann Lane Elementary School was announced as the Top Elementary School in the San Antonio area by Children at Risk for the second year in a row.

Children at Risk is a nonprofit research and advocacy organization that investigates the impact of education, family well-being, immigration, health and nutrition on children in Texas, according to its website.

Texas public schools have been ranked and evaluated by the organization annually for the past 13 years based on student achievement on standardized tests, year-to-year student growth and how well schools support economically disadvantaged students, according to a Comal Independent School District press release.

The organization evaluated 339 elementary schools in the region and ranked CISD's Timberwood Park Elementary School fifth overall. In total, the organization ranked 550 schools, and CISD had seven elementary schools rank in the top 50, five middle school campuses in the top 50 and four high school campuses in the top 30 in their respective categories.

“This recognition highlights how our staff and community consistently work together to ensure the success of every student,” said Amanda Schumann, principal of Hoffman Lane Elementary, in a press release. “We understand that everyone must feel safe before they can learn, and our teachers continue to find new ways to keep our students and families engaged.”

The top five schools in this year’s ranking were honored during a virtual press conference Nov. 30. The full statewide 2020 rankings can be viewed here.
