As Gladys McLean’s 101st birthday approached on Nov. 13, her wish was to give 101 toys to children in need. The second-grade class at Indian Springs Elementary School helped make her wish come true by hosting a toy drive.

The elementary school is located near McLean’s retirement home. With 202 toys collected by 146 students, McLean’s request was doubled. The toys will be donated to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.

“It’s wonderful to see the kids giving all these toys in Gladys’ honor,” Marine Gunnery Sgt. Kevin Dahlin said in a news release. Dahlin is coordinator for the 2018 San Antonio Toys for Tots campaign.
