Along with a kaleidoscope of flavors between two buns, Tin Top Burgers & Beer offers a family-friendly dining experience with a fenced and shaded patio well-suited for a meal after a day at Schlitterbahn or on the Comal River.
The house patty is made with a combination of pork and Nolan Ryan beef, although alternatives include beef-only patties and vegan Beyond Beef patties, all of which are made smash style.
“They’re smashed up pretty thin but they’re a quarter pound,” Styles said. “They get a good crust on them, hold in a lot of juice, a lot of flavor.”
Piedfort, who is the chef, released a secret menu this year with several special dishes, such as The Double Dog Dare burger, which is made with chipotle mayo and a hot pepper mash.
Tin Top also sells a burger of the month. Recently, The French Dip Burger was offered with pastrami, Swiss cheese and grilled onions on a house patty topped with Cajun tiger sauce. Served between slices of Texas toast, the special included a side of au jus as well.
While these monthly dishes sometimes make repeat appearances, Styles noted the kitchen often creates something new to try.
“All of our burgers have sauces on them that are made here in house,” Styles said, noting the German-style mustard served. “We do make our own pickles that we jar and sell here.”
In addition to the thoughtfully crafted menu, Styles said customer service and beer selection help Tin Top stand out. Some 60 different types of canned and bottled beers are available.
Environmentally conscious practices also define the business, he said. Cans and bottles are collected and picked up regularly by the local humane society.
“These are really, I think, the main things that make us who we are,” Styles said.
