On Feb. 17, Comal County reported 52 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the county total to 29,709 since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

The county reported 433 new cases from Feb. 14-17. There were 899 reported the week of Feb. 7-13.

An additional three coronavirus-related deaths were also reported in the county this week, all of which were residents of New Braunfels. A total of 519 coronavirus-related deaths of county residents have been reported.

County hospitals on Feb. 17 reported caring for 25 COVID-19 patients, down from 42 on Feb. 10. Local hospitalizations had previously remained above 50 since Jan. 12 before dropping to 36 on Feb. 8.

Hospitals reported five of the patients were in intensive care and four were on ventilators as of Feb. 17. According to the county, 74% of the patients in county hospitals with COVID-19 are not fully vaccinated.

As of Feb. 17, 63.52% of Comal County residents are fully vaccinated and 36,980 have received a booster dose.


In Guadalupe County, 57.11% of residents are fully vaccinated and 32,420 have received a booster dose.

COVID-19 testing sites are available throughout the region and many area pharmacies and health care providers offer vaccination appointments. Home testing kits are also available at some in-person and online retailers.
