During the regular Sept. 27 New Braunfels City Council meeting, council members voted in favor of creating a redistricting committee to partner with city staff and consultants during the redistricting process.

The city began the redistricting process following the release of the 2020 U.S. Census data and has contracted with Alan Bojorquez of Bojorquez Law Firm, P.C. to review the data.

A total of 10 members will form the committee. Each of the six council members and the mayor will appoint one member to represent their district, while the remaining three members will be selected by City Council from those that apply.

“Redistricting has a lot of implications for cities, which is why it is so important that this committee has involvement across a broad section of our community,” Mayor Rusty Brockman said in a press release. “We would encourage anyone interested in participating in this process to apply for one of the three at-large spots on this committee.”

The city previously created a redistricting committee during the 2011 redistricting process.

Applications are available online and will be accepted through Oct. 10. The three members will be selected during a special City Council meeting on Oct. 18 at New Braunfels City Hall, located at 550 Landa St.
