A workshop scheduled for Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. at New Braunfels City Hall, 550 Landa St., will provide council members and members of the public with information about the redistricting process.

Attendees will learn about the effect of population shifts and migration changes that could influence changes to the city’s single-member districts.

In January the city hired the Bojorquez Law Firm, P.C. for legal services related to the 2020 Census and possible redistricting that could stem from the release of population data from the census.

During the meeting, attorney Alan Bojorquez will explain the redistricting process and discuss relevant federal, state and local laws.

Any concerns about changing racial and ethnic demographics, politics, and community interests in relation to the configuration of council member district boundaries will also be addressed, according to the city.

“Redistricting involves a lot of moving parts and has a lot of implications for our community,” New Braunfels City Attorney Val Acevado said. “So, it’s important that everyone understands the process before those efforts begin in earnest.”

For those unable to attend the meeting, the workshop will also be televised on Spectrum Cable Channel 21 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, and it will be available on the city website.
