New Braunfels Christian Academy, located at 220 FM 1863, New Braunfels, broke ground on a new athletic complex Oct. 6.

The details

Although the complex will serve all academy students, it will mainly benefit its secondary campus for students in grades six to 12.

Nick Reeves, New Braunfels Christian Academy head of schools, the facility will have:
  • A year-round playing surface
  • Eight-lane track
  • Jumping pits
  • Throwing areas
  • Bleachers
  • Press box
  • Weight room
  • Dressing rooms
  • Coaches offices
  • Field house
  • Concessions
Reeves said he was excited to see the project moving forward.

“There have been several times in the last few years of our school that initiatives like this have been attempted to get going, and for whatever reason they just haven’t gotten off the ground,” he said.

Athletic Director John Bronkhorst said the new complex will give the NBCA the opportunity to showcase its facilities as well as the academy itself citywide, statewide and regionally.

“The opportunity to host track meets, playoff football and soccer games for other teams around the area, host youth football leagues and camps is very exciting for our school,” Bronkhorst said in an email to Community Impact.

The cost

The facility is being funded through private donations and will cost roughly $11 million—$9 million of which has been raised within the past 18 months, Reeves said.

“We’re very fortunate to have amazing generosity from our people,” he said.

The impact

Reeves said the new facility will serve a majority of the student body as 96% of students participate in at least one team sport.

The facility is expected to be completed by the end of May or early June.
