Debra Jimenez has always had a knack for design. She owned a furniture store but said she found herself lighting up when her customers would ask for one-on-one design and decorating assistance.

After a few years she decided to close her furniture store and open Design Difference, an interior design company.

During the recession she began decorating area car dealerships for the holidays, where she met her husband, Rudy. He worked at one of the dealerships but said he found himself enjoying working with Jimenez on her design work even more.

In 2017 the couple purchased Kitchen Tune-Up so Rudy could come to work with Jimenez full-time, but they did not give up Design Difference.

Kitchen Tune-Up focuses on redesigning kitchens and bathrooms while Design Difference focuses on the design of the entire home, which makes it a one-stop shop when a client is remodeling.

“People are staying in their homes longer and deciding to remodel instead of move out,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez and Rudy said they love helping their customers have a hassle-free remodeling experience.

“People always think a kitchen remodel is going to be a long, drawn-out process, but our remodels are done in five to seven days,” Jimenez said.

Instead of tearing everything down and starting from scratch, the cabinets are made to look new by being refaced and re-doored. Backsplashes, countertops and flooring can also be updated upon request.

In addition to a full remodel they also offer one-day wood restoration and a “tune-up” to take away the scratches and grease on an older kitchen.

Kitchen Tune-Up offers a free consultation by appointment, and Design Difference can add the consultation cost to the final invoice. The businesses also offer a financing option for projects.
